The 2016 SBI National Championships were hosted again in Clearwater, FL this past weekend to end the regular season of racing where both the National and Florida Champions were crowned. With some impress performances throughout the entire season by many teams the biggest had to have been the CMS Offshore Team with their pair of MTI’s, who took win in the Unlimited Class at almost every stop this summer leading to their National Championship title over the big guns such as Miss Geico. The biggest fleet of the season however was the Superboat Class which saw some tight competition throughout in the Skater powerboat dominated class and despite not winning in Clearwater the Performance Boat Center Team held a top position adding to their points lead which was enough for them to walk away as this season champions. Superboat Australia teams are getting set to compete in Bowen for this 2016 season opener and this is looking to be another big one as the series continues to grow with several new teams joining the action this year along with the return of many favourites. Regates De Valleyfield hosted the USF1 Powerboat Tour again this weekend for the F1’s second stop of the season at the historic race site which brought out over 20,000+ spectators to see some of their favourite formula boat racers who joined the Hydroplane racing which also took place this weekend. Testing began friday and with storms rolling in during the afternoon qualifying was forced to be cancel. With this Saturday saw two heats with the line up being determined by series points. After several great heats which only saw two accidents in the F1 class during the 3rd heat Saturday morning the finals came down to tight match up but from the start dock Terry Rinker managed to hold off the competition to take the win for the second year in a row in Quebec.
