(Photo courtesy of the Miss Geico Racing Team) OPA Racing took over the bustling Atlantic city this weekend for their annual race which as always saw a huge turn out of fans packing the shores and casinos to catch a glimpse of some of the worlds top offshore teams in action. All classes had a decent turn out all the way up to the Extreme class as the battle continued with Alex & Ani going head to head once again with Miss Geico who came out on top for their second meet up in a row. Another well recognized boat came out to join the action as well as War Paint made an appearance for the Super Cat class. From Class 1 to 7 there was some great battle as well that took centre stage as they faced some rough conditions for an action packed weekend. The inaugural Formula 2 Powerboat Racing event in Nashville, Tennessee over the weekend a huge success as racers and fans alike were raving about it from start to finish. With this being the narrowest course of the circuit and being located in the heart of Music City with grandstands, bridges and bars surrounding the course it was an extremely spectator friendly atmosphere bring in thousands of fans young and old to watch the Formula racers. The race action was intense with the Formula boats taking centre stage which Tim Seebold who is one his Last Lap retirement tour fought hard in the 30 lap finals on Sunday to be named champion of Thunder On the Cumberland, but in addition to the Formula 2 boats their were a number of Tri-Hulls and J-Hydro’s competing between the F2 heats. Our BoatStars Vintage team even made an appearance with one of our Switzer Wings “ Red Bird” to be on display at the gates as we worked to help with the efforts of including the vintage classes in next seasons event. (Photo credit: Seebold Sports) Laporte locals got to witness the official opening of the USF1 Tour this past weekend which also marked the start of legendary race Tim Seebolds final season of racing after several decades of being one of the top competitors the sports has ever seen. This season will be sure to be exciting as were sure he will look to finish it off in his traditional fashion by putting up some big weekends which he did holding off top racers Terry Rink and Chris Fairchild who followed close behind as he took the win. Next event will be Bay City however many of the racers will be heading for some racing in the Formula 2 league at the inaugural Nashville event in a few short weeks which will be on hand covering the special event sp keep posted for many shots and updates to come from Music City.
