A very frustrating weekend for the SuperStock crews at the Marine Stadium, the racing was staggered and inconsistent due to the thundering weather this morning and sea-life circulating the race track but after a 26-year wait there was always going to be light at the end of the tunnel as some bright sunshine hit Miami and we even managed to get one race completed! We were extremely excited to announce that we had two new crews joining us for the 2018 AquaX USA season, Gallagher and Rapid Builder. They were ready to hit the ground running, but unfortunately for Rapid Builder, that wasn't the case. During the practice lap, they steered into the first corner and the boat rolled over, luckily Driver Mike Salber and Navigator Zane Salber suffered no injuries. Gallagher had a great first run under inconsistent condition but came just one point short of a podium finish. After the practice lap incident, the race began and Frank and Al's Pizza continued their fantastic form from 2017, and most certainly took it into this season. Driver Frank Silva cruised his way into the lead, with his right hand man Chris Mejias navigating their way to yet another win…
As to the cancellation of the Resorts World Bimini Offshore Powerboat Grand Prix II scheduled for 26th 27th and 28th April 2018; it has been determined that the Offshore Powerboat Race & Ocean Powerboats Lifestyle Festival’s second year development and production costs are disproportionately high versus the promotional and marketing benefits, impressions, and related revenue generated during the four-day event period and any good will developed and utilized in the following one hundred eighty days. The disproportionately high costs for Resorts World Bimini (Bahamas) as opposed to the same costs in a similar US venue include, but certainly are not limited to, the following: Race Boat and Service Equipment cost to ship from Ft Lauderdale-Bimini-Ft Lauderdale per freighter is twenty-two thousand dollars each way or forty-four thousand dollars round trip. Depending on the size of the race boat the freighter can hold as many as ten race boats. That equates to a transport cost of four thousand four hundred dollars plus three hundred dollars in US / Bahamian Customs and EPA documentation, PLUS 3.5% of the stated race boat value for Loss in Transit Insurance.
